This landmark two-day exhibition formed part of the official China-Africa Year of People-to-People exchange programme, bringing together art, history, and diplomacy in a powerful demonstration of cultural exchange. Under the theme “Telling China’s stories well and promoting China-Africa cultural exchange”, the event welcomed a distinguished delegation of Chinese artists, alongside South African learners, government representatives, educators, and members of the public.
Organised by Beijing Gudao Lanting Culture and Art Company Limited, Beijing Chang’an Jinwufu Culture and Art Company, and the Beijing Gudao Lanting Art Museum, the exhibition featured works by acclaimed artists including Sun BenSheng, Qiang Bo, Chen PeiLun, Wei An, Liu ChangJiang, Zhang Yong, Zhai JianQun, Ouyang Ziaolin, Zhang GuoLiang, Tang Yi, Zheng PingHai, and Yuan XiaoMei. Their collective work showcased the depth and richness of Chinese painting and calligraphy traditions while fostering meaningful intercultural dialogue.
Beyond the exhibition itself, the programme created opportunities for direct cultural exchange. Learners from schools supported by the Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation participated actively in guided tours, live demonstrations, and interactive sessions with visiting artists. These engagements enabled young participants to experience global cultural traditions first-hand, reinforcing the exhibition’s broader objective of fostering people-to-people connections.
